Enamelware has long been used at campsites but has recently moved to more less primitive places. Made by fusing glass particles to the outside of a thin piece of steel (which creates the token shiny surface and prevents food from leeching any unwanted flavors), it is incredibly durable. Because it is also extremely light, it is easily tossed in a beach tote without adding extra weight.
