Growing up not a weekend went by that there wasn't a fire in the fireplace during winter. A long box of fireplace matches housed in a tacky metallic box could always be found on the mantle. They were most likely from the local hardware store or the Christmas Tree Shops. It wasn't uncommon to hear my father swearing not exactly under his breath as match after match broke while he tried to light the fire.
These matches are the antithesis of those matches. Each beautiful letterpress box has a slide down lid that reveals extra long and thick matchsticks.
